As the away fixture on the opening day, Llanrwst Utd would come out victorious, this time at Gwydir Park.
After just 5 minutes, it was clear Barmouth would be in for a tough afternoon, with Llanrwst Utd forcing a great double save from Tyler French, (a recent signing from Porthmadog) from Luke Roberts and Aron Hughes.
Two minutes later, the Rwsters went one nil ahead. Matt Mullender picked the ball up on the half way line, he skipped passed the two Barmouth midfielders before unleashing a rocket into the top corner. Tyler was again in action on 9’ with another great save from close range, this would become the theme for the first half. Barmouth would see Joey Jones booked for descent and Manager Carl Ryan asked to leave the dugout by the Referee.
Paul Lewis tried to give Barmouth some hope but he headed the ball over the bar on 25’ which was Barmouth’s only real effort of the half.
The Rwsters would double their lead on 39’. Experienced keeper Paul Roberts kicked the ball long to the determined Aron Hughes who was brave as he won the header, which fell to the prolific Mike Lundstram, Lundstram controlled it before smashing the ball passed the helpless French.
A nasty collision between Mullender and Barmouths right back, Llion Owen just before half time would see Barmouth being forced into a substitution as Llion Owen was forced to leave the pitch.
The second half started just the same as the first half, with the Rwsters quick out the blocks.
Man of the Match Aron Hughes would be rewarded for his hard work as his pace beat the advancing French, Hughes finishing calmly from 35yards.
The Rwsters did have further chances, Hughes, Roberts and substitute Morgan Owen coming close but all were spoiled by French.
Paul Lewis did score a consolation for the away team in the 87th minute, only for the referees assistant to flag for an incorrect offside, which was overturned by the Referee. On 89’ Llanrwst would again counter attack as the magpies pushed for a second, only for Tyler French to pull out another great save.
