Llanrwst made it 3 wins from 3 games after an impressive away win against Abergele and moved the Rwsters up to 13th in the table. Llanrwst made a couple of changes from the win against Llanfairpwll, with Ciran Jones, Nidian Jones and Ryan Watson coming in to the starting 11.
Although it was a cold day, playing on Llandudno’s 3G meant it was perfect football conditions. Both teams cancelled each other out in the first 25 minutes or so, with no real clear cut chances for either side. But on 30 minutes Llanrwst United scored. Rwsters captain Gwyn Jones delivered a fantastic dead ball from the right hand side which Leighton Griffiths headed home giving the Abergele keeper no chance. It was no surprise that it was Griffiths who headed the ball in, he was an aerial threat all afternoon and was winning everything in the air.
The second half was similar to the first, with neither team taking control nor creating clear cut chances. Both keepers looking comfortable with only half chances here and there. Abergele were trying to force their way back into the game, and the Rwsters were looking dangerous on the counter attack, however neither side could find the back of the net and Llanrwst held on. Leighton Griffiths scoring his first goal since returning from Glan Conwy made a real difference and showed his class throughout with a man of the match performance.
Another clean sheet for the Rwsters, and manager Barry Owen was delighted with a third consecutive win “A massive win for us, but the way we did it, and to keep another clean sheet is a credit to the lads”
